I would suggest each single marketing department to learn more about psychometric and the power of search and online user behavior .
Google Ad planner is trying to be a good mashup to compete with Alexa.com, compete.com, hitwise.com, comscore.com, quantacst.com that collects data from ISP or toolbar and panels.
But Google ad planner might differ since Google is mostly extracting its data from:
Google Toolbar that has been installed in many computer users worldwide
Google Analytics that has been installed in many websites worldwide
Google Sitemap and webmaster tool
Gmail.com that is used wordlwide
YouTube.com distributed and embedded videos
Jaidu.com
Google Earth
Google Desktop Search Enterprise and Individual version.
Firefox + Google search
Google Trends
Google trends for websites.
DART mediavisor from doubleclick
DART for advertisers
What might scare many marketing firms is that Google can decide to deliver at any given moment THE MARKETING MESSAGE that reach its exact audience at any given moment.
Are you wiser now? Yes, you might be or wait 5 seconds, think about it again…

“In the old days, you called it wisdom,” says Duke University neurobiologist Lawrence Katz, Ph.D. “But what is wisdom, really? It is a dense and rich network of associations developed through a lifetime of experiences.” You can’t buy that richness, and you can’t get it from a pill. You have to earn it—by putting your gray matter to the test time and time again. “There’s a reason we don’t have 20-year-olds running Fortune 500 companies,” Katz says.

Nice post. Best summary I’ve seen of Google Ad Planner likely data sources.
There’s a lot of hand wringing from agencies about Ad Planner.
The good news, however, is that the greater availability of free data will dramatically increase interest in online advertising and media planning, the same way that Google Analytics dramatically increased interest in Web site traffic statistics.
Did the release of the free Google Analytics kill off the established vendors like Omniture, Webtrends, CoreMetrics et al? Not yet. In fact, it provided a much-needed split in the industry between do-it-yourselfers and serious analytics consultants using enterprise tools.
Ad Planner will do the same for online advertising. Small and medium clients and agencies will increase their Internet ad buys due to the comfort of having real data about thousand and thousands of sites. And the big guys will continue using the enterprise solutions.
