Med sina nu 37 år på tronen har alltså kungen uppnått lika många år som Gustav Vasa (1523-1560). Genom dessa ofta långa regentlängder fungerar monarkin som en stabiliserande symbol – i ett annars skiftande, föränderligt Sverige. Monarkin tjänar, på detta sätt, som en sammanbindande länk – över tiden och generationerna. Sverige kan känna stolthet över att ha en konstitutionell monarki med en icke-politisk kung som statschef och som yttersta representant för staten Sverige och det svenska folket.
Bröllopsdagen
Följ förberedelserna i Stockholm och Ockelbo inför dagens historiska evenemang. Dessutom nyheter från Rapport kl 08:00, 09:00, 10:00, 11:00 och 12:00. Programledare: Marianne Rundström och Claes Elfsberg direkt från den specialbyggda sändningsplatsen på Strömkajen med Stockholms slott som fond. En rad gäster med insyn i brudparets liv och festligheterna runt omkring medverkar.

Kl 10.00-11.00: Förste hovmarskalk Lars-Hjalmar Wide, designern Göran Alfredsson.
Kl 11.00-12.00: Magnus Härenstam med hustrun Birgitta, Bengt Feldreich berättar om bröllopssändningen 1976 och Caroline af Ugglas – en av de artister som uppträder under bröllopsdagen.
Kl 12.00-13.00: Sändningen flyttar till Nybroplan där Claes Elfsberg finns. Han gästas bland annat av chefen för Bernadottebiblioteket Göran Alm och SVT:s vd Eva Hamilton. Under förmiddagens sändning bjuds även på bröllopsmat med Paul Svensson, vi får kontinuerliga uppdateringar av väderläget och direktrapporter från firandet i Ockelbo, Kristinehamn och folkvimlet i Stockholm.
