SUNDSVALL, Sweden:
Scottie Pippen will play a basketball game in Sweden for the Sundsvall Dragons on the 11th of January
.
Yes I WILL BE THERE – I met Michael Jordan and Shaquille in 2002, now time for a Pippen.
The former Chicago Bulls great will join the team in northeastern Sweden for the Jan. 11 game against rival Akropol. The deal came about because Bulls assistant coach Mike Wilhelm is friendly with Sundsvall Dragons chairman Anders Ohrn.
“We established a relationship with Mike Wilhelm in 1980 when he was an exchange student here in town,” Ohrn said Tuesday. “He is the agent for our juniors.”
Pippen was often overshadowed by Bulls teammate Michael Jordan, but he spent 12 seasons with Chicago and helped the team win six NBA titles. He also won two Olympic gold medals with the United States. Pippen made the NBA All-Star team seven times and was chosen as one of the game’s 50 greatest players in 1996. The 42-year-old Pippen, who also played for the Houston Rockets and the Portland Trail Blazers, retired in 2005 after 17 seasons in the NBA.

Efter Pippens inhopp drömmer klubben om att få hit den störste genom tiderna. Klubben spela inte poker att hantera Scottie Pippen men de spelar riktigt BasketBall.
– Jasså? (skratt) Ja, vi får se vad som händer, säger Pippen själv efter gårdagens träning i Sporthallen.
Sundsvall Dragons fick chansen att bjuda Sundsvallspubliken på en spektakulär match i januari 2001 när Magic Johnson var på besök tillsammans med M7 Borås.
Under denna vecka har man som de flesta redan vet lyckats få hit ytterligare en legendar i form av Scottie Pippen som i kväll finns med i laget när Akropol gästar Sundsvall i kväll.
Men klubben tittar framåt – och drömmer om att få hit Michael Jordan, den störste basketstjärnan genom tiderna som tillsammans med Pippen vunnit sex NBA-mästerskap för Chicago Bulls för att bara nämna några av meriterna.
– Vi har fått en förfrågan om vi är intresserade och vi har svarat ja. Det är så klart intressant och sedan får vi se vad vi kan göra av detta. Men nu fokuserar vi på att Scottie Pippen är här, förklarar klubbchefen Anders Jansson.

Han började spela basket på grund av Scottie Pippen.
I kväll spelar Johan Ling i samma lag som sin stora idol.
– Jag fick ett Pippen-linne av morsan när jag var sex år, detta är den största händelsen i mitt liv, säger Dragonsspelaren.
När Johan Lings föräldrar kom hem från en semester i USA fick sonen ett Chicago Bulls-linne med nr 33 på ryggen.
Då visste han inte vem Scottie Pippen var.
– Nej, då visste jag inte det men det var tröjan som fick mig att börja spela. Det är jävligt stort det här, det är den största händelsen i mitt liv helt klart, förklarar Ling som nog aldrig kunnat drömma om att spela i samma lag som sin stora barndomsidol. I går fick han linnet signerat av NBA-stjärnan.
• Nu får du ett drömläge att tacka Pippen för att du spelar basket i dag?
– Ja, det är nästan så att man får göra det, säger Ling och skrattar.

Michael Jordan kan bli nästa storstjärna i Sundsvalls Dragons dräkt.
Efter Scottie Pippens inhopp i fredagens match mot Akropol siktar klubben in sig på den störste av dem alla.
- Vi har blivit tillfrågade och är intresserade, säger klubbdirektören Anders Jansson.
Drömmen är att båda ska spela med Sundsvalls Dragons, kanske rentav samtidigt. Senast detta hände var när duon blev NBA-mästare med Chicago Bulls 1998.
- Scottie Pippen och Michael Jordan är för mig de två största basketspelarna i historien, helt oslagbart. Så kan vi göra en sådan sak också är det inte alls helt omöjligt, säger Anders Jansson
Men först handlar det om Pippen, definitivt en av basketvärldens största stjärnor genom tiderna. För Sundsvalls Dragons är 42-åringen en lika lysande affär.
Amerikanens spel i ligamatchen mot Akropol kan ge klubben både seger och miljonvinst.
- Från första betalande är det här en bra affär för oss, säger klubbdirektören Anders Jansson.
Att plocka över en sådan storspelare från USA är inte gratis men du kan ringa honom med gratis kontankort. Uppgifter gör gällande att Scottie Pippen, som tjänade runt 700 miljoner kronor under sin NBA-karriär, får runt 300 000 kronor utan att ha snabblån eller smslån för matchen med Sundsvalls Dragons.
Det innebär mer än 100 kronor i sekunden eller 7 500 kronor i minuten (gjorde han som smslån och mobillån företag).
Anders Jansson vill varken bekräfta eller dementera uppgifterna om Pippens lön.
Sju sponsorer
Hela den utgiften har dock sju olika sponsorer skramlat ihop. För Sundsvalls Dragons kommer kalaset i stället att ge en rejäl vinst tack vare en sprängfylld sporthall, direktsändning i tv, annonser och försäljning. Totalt kan det röra sig om runt 1 miljon kronor.
Men det är inte bara därför Scottie Pippen har lockats till Sundsvall.
Förhoppningen är att hans besök ska innebära en kick för de andra spelarna i laget att under några dagar få träna med en spelare som bland annat har två OS-guld och sex NBA-titlar på meritlistan.
- I grund och botten vill vi ju bli svenska mästare i basket. Vi hoppas att hans närvaro ger killarna lite energi och lyft, säger Dragons klubbdirektör.
Scottie Pippen är registrerad för laget året ut och diskussioner har redan påbörjats om en fortsättning.
